YOUR ACCOUNT AT IRS

IRS is making huge leaps in taxpayer accessibility!  Your tax record isn’t a black box anymore.

The portal is highly secure, so please don’t get too frustrated trying to verify your identity.  Remember that you want this to be hard to do – so someone else can’t get in as you!

I am hoping that all my clients will set up an account, which will enable you to:

Verify:

  • Your payment history and scheduled or pending payments

  • Key information from your most recent tax return

  • Copies of at least some notices from IRS

  • Economic Impact Payments

  • Advance Child Tax Credit payments

  • The total amount you owe, including balance details by year

  • Payment plan details, if you have one

And you can:

  • Make a payment online

  • See payment plan options and request a plan online

  • Get a transcript of your tax records – think how useful that sometimes is!

AND WHAT I’M MOST EXCITED ABOUT:

You will be able to approve an authorization request from me!  Any of you who’ve given me a Power of Attorney in the past to represent you before IRS may have an idea how difficult they’ve made that process.

Both spouses in a married couple should establish accounts.  Certain tasks require that – including opting out of Advance Child Tax Credits.

I’m hoping you’ll go to IRS.GOV and sign up now!  Let me know when you’ve done it and I’ll put in a request to obtain copies of any notices sent to you or accept a Power of Attorney to represent you.

Thanks for helping me help you. Let’s head IRS notices off at the pass.
